Business growth and marketing offers – Every business gets emailed, called and texted by many companies and individuals offering a service (which they lead you to believe is free) or inclusion in an “exclusive” (paid) network. They may disguise themselves in many different ways, arrange phone calls and meetings with you to try and trick you into buying something you don’t need – that 9 times out of 10, won’t work. Most people fall for these schemes and scams, trusting the salespeople. If it’s one thing we have learned, salespeople are not your friend. They have a bottom line, and that bottom line is your dollar.

Have You Been Invited to Be a Partner or a VIP Member to an Exclusive Network Recently?

If you have received an invitation for a “partnership” or to be a “VIP member” it will not ever be free. Before you waste your time in an email or on the phone you need to ask them upfront, “Will this cost me anything”? and “What will I get for my investment?” If these two questions can’t be answered it is nothing more than a farce. Some companies can however sound like they know what they are talking about, provide case studies and testimonials and still only have one objective – to get your money. These salespeople may or may not know that the product they are selling is full of hot air. It is your responsibility as a business owner or manager to be able to sift through the junk and find the gems.

How do You Tell Who is Good and Who is Bad? – Which Services and Companies are Legitimate and Will Actually Help With Business Growth?

So which solicitations can you trust? It can be really hard to weed through the fakery and dishonesty when being bombarded with all of these different offers, from many different people and organizations. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. If someone says ‘exclusive‘ they likely have thousands or millions of “members
  2. If someone says an Account Manager will walk you through everything, get what they will do for you either one time, monthly or yearly. Get it in writing and have them sign it so they are accountable
  3. If you are on the phone and someone creates an invoice for you on the spot and pressures you to pay it immediately, end the call
  4. If someone uses a lot of terminology, buzz words, sandwiches things or uses business talk is is likely a garbage service or a disguised payment request to you for a “service”
  5. If you visit the company’s website and see fake news videos, this is not a legitimate service or company
  6. If you are provided numbers for specific digital works you will get or be included in actually look to make sure they are accurate use tools like Alexa, Compete, PR, Google Keyword Planner and other tools to determine if the numbers are accurate or not
  7. If someone solicits you and offers a multi tiered payment system, run away it is a pyramid scheme and you won’t make money – you will invest and be stuck with product that doesn’t sell
  8. If you are on a company website and register and your credit card is charged for a higher amount than what you were expecting… Read the fine print, it may be hidden somewhere else on the website.
  9. Be careful with offers don’t match the website
  10. If you ask questions and the caller tries to abruptly end the call or dodges the questions, doesn’t give a direct answer and makes you re-ask, that is another red flag
  11. Look at their online reviews from employees current and past – also scan for fake reviews or paid reviews
  12. If someone has an offer that sounds too good to be true it likely is
  13. If someone fails to provide a fact sheet or details about what you will get for your investment steer clear
  14. If you receive solicitations for services that you already have, pay attention to the proposals. Are they general or are they specifically tailored for your website? If they have nothing to do with what is actually going on with your website, this is spam. Run away
  15. You may be invited to join a new pilot project from a large or small company who uses leverage from other large companies in order to look good. Many are piggybacking off of Google, saying they are a partner, but anyone can be a Google Partner, they just need to pass Google’s online test
