It can be alarming when you see the “Gooblebot can’t access your site” message in your inbox. This morning we found 20 of these messages in our inbox, all belonging to different websites. While we knew there were some issues with some robots.txt files, others had no blocking issues at all. How to Check for Web and Mobile Search Issues on Your Website

If you think that you have some Googlebot access issues for web and mobile search, here are some things that you can do to determine what content Google can’t access. If your website isn’t mobile friendly, then that is the first thing you need to do, before you:

  1. Log into Google Webmaster Tools (GWT)
  2. Fetch URLs in question as Googlebot
  3. Check out the screenshots of what Googlebot can see and compare with the non-bot view
  4. If this looks ok, then check your robots.txt file for mobile issues
  5. If you have a Web Developer or SEO Specialist have them fix the issues and fetch Googlebot again
  6. If there are still errors or if you don’t have a Web Developer or about, we can help
