If you suspect your content has been copied try searching for your domain or phone number in Google or use a web based detection tool. The image to the left shows a sentence from our content writing Vancouver webpage. In this case, it is only one sentence so there isn’t much we can do about it. However, if a large portion of your content has been copied it is well worth it to take the necessary steps to get it removed.
Record the Offending Website’s URL, Copied Content and Email Address
The first step to getting your copied content removed is to write down each URL and record the copied content. It is also a good idea to record the website’s contact number. If you see your domain or phone number in the SERP snippet (a search engine listing) but can’t find it on the website in question you could view a cache of the website and select text view only. If a cached version is unavailable, you could take a screenshot of it, record the search snippet and the URL. You will want to check each month to see if your content has been copied.
How to Get Your Content Removed from a Website that Has Stolen It or Used it Without Permission
Once you have all of the information you need, you can email the webmaster and kindly ask them to remove your content. You can also put in a formal request through Google. If a low quality offending website is linking to you you could either email the webmaster or use the Google link disavow tool. When all else fails, you could get a lawyer to write a cease and desist letter, demanding content be removed. If there is no action to remove your content, you could then sue.
