We do inbound marketing in Vancouver and will show you how SEO and PPC work together in this blog post. There are a lot of similarities with SEO and PPC, as well as some major differences. Here is a list of similarities and differences:

  1. Keyword Research – SEO uses searching, buying, comparing and geo keywords whereas PPC uses buying keywords
  2. Search Engine Result Page (SERPs) Results – SEO sets keywords for each page in the metadata. Each AdGroup has associated ads, which look very similar to the way search snippets are displayed for SEO or organic search.
  3. Campaign and Website Structure – SEO organizes pages into categories and subcategories. PPC landing pages are also organized into a structure. SEO works to create an optimized structure for PPC so that landing pages seamlessly integrate into regular website content.
  4. On Page Optimization – SEO has webpages optimized in order to bring in search engine rankings and traffic. PPC has optimized landing pages to decrease bid cost as ads and keywords are seen as more relevant, have ads show up more frequently and in better positions. Another benefit of optimizing PPC landing pages is that once the landings are ranking organically different keywords can be chosen for PPC. This way we use PPC to get immediate traffic and can switch to new keywords once SEO catches up. For some big keywords, having both PPC and SEO display at the same time is always a good idea.
  5. Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) – Both SEO search snippets and PPC ads will show up in SERPs. This means that people who are using a search engine will see your search snippet and advertisement on the same page. What this does it take up more real estate and helps your website stand out as you appear more than once.
  6. Drive Traffic to Your Website – SEO is a very steady approach to building traffic to your website. Since it can take a while to build up, especially for competitive keywords, PPC can be used to deliver instant traffic. With SEO costs usually involve paying an SEO team or SEO Specialist, and rankings stick around for many years with a good team or Specialist. With PPC you need to pay each time someone clicks on your ad. PPC tends to be a lot more expensive, but you get instant traffic. The traffic isn’t as targeted as with SEO, so your conversions aren’t as high. If you do both SEO and PPC you get the benefits of both, and where there is a weakness in one, the other turns it into a positive.
  7. Tracking Results and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – SEO and PPC both have KPIs. When both are used together they support eachother as outlined above. This means bigger results. The next logial step in this fab combo mix is to introduce social media marketing.
